Serco-NedRailways is invited to tender
for the new West Midlands rail franchise

Serco-NedRailways is delighted to be invited by the Department for Transport (DfT) to submit a tender for the award of the new West Midlands rail franchise.

This important franchise provides train services to meet commuter and leisure needs for the West Midlands and Home Counties as well as longer distance travellers as far a field as London and Merseyside.

This presents an exciting and challenging opportunity to ensure that local and regional train services contribute to the sustainable economic and social development of these important regions. The Serco-NedRailways approach will build on successful t Merseyrail and Northern Rail operations, where our partnership approach and commitment to sharing best practice have resulted in improved services for passengers.

In a joint statement Anton Valk, Chief Executive of NedRailways and Nick Brown, Managing Director of Serco Rail said:

As our record shows, Serco-NedRailways specialise in delivering secure and dependable rail services which meet the needs of local communities and encourage people to use trains as a reliable option for going about their everyday lives.
We are looking forward to developing an exciting proposal for the DfT which will deliver the same benefits for passengers who use the West Midlands franchise and will encourage new passengers to use the service. Our partnership approach with local authorities, community groups and other strategic organisations has been the key to the delivery of improved services in our other companies, and we look forward to bringing this same approach to the West Midlands franchise."
