Introducing Serco-NedRailways

Serco is one of the world’s leading public service companies operating on a global basis in a diverse range of sectors.  It has experienced tremendous business growth through its successful partnering approach to the delivery of often complex contracts on behalf of Government. Serco manages organisational and cultural change smoothly and positively – and pursues continuous improvement relentlessly.

NedRailways is a wholly owned subsidiary of Dutch Railways
(NS), the major passenger operator in the Netherlands. NedRailways draws on the wide range of expertise and experience available within NS. Besides fleet maintenance and operational planning and timetabling, NS develops and operates station hubs and retail facilities. NS has a leading role in developing integrated transport solutions.

“Serco NedRailways already operates the Merseyrail electric services on behalf of Merseytravel, and is selected for the the new Northern Rail franchise.”

Both companies are people focused, recognising that we only exist to serve our customers, and that delivery is critically dependent on the quality of our employees. Recognising the challenges facing governments, we aim to deliver value for money for the taxpayer and to provide the best solutions for passengers. With a dedicated team we are committed to helping shape the British rail industry structure, while capturing the innovative potential of the private sector and through transferring best practice from our respective experiences.

Serco

Serco drawing on its experience across different sectors with a wide range of public service contracts, advises clients on strategies, structures and processes for the provision of public services – designed to make the best use of the combined resources of the client and Serco. For example it is helping to shape the way contracts are structured before they are out for tender, and advising on new partnership models and delivery methods for public services.

NedRailways

NedRailways shares practical examples of best practice in delivering long-term solutions to achieve a significant change in the industry.
It draws on experience in the Dutch rail sector, which faces similar challenges to the UK. Both countries have experienced significant growth in rail travel and need to make a substantial changes to cope with further expected growth. Rail has an increasingly vital role in making cities accessible to commuters, with roads struggling to offer
a feasible alternative.

This is no short-term marriage of convenience. The Serco-NedRailways team has quickly established itself as a force passionately determined to work hard, and to enjoy making a difference. We have adopted the European Foundation of Quality Management's approach to Business Excellence in support of our determination to foster an ethos of continued improvement in all we do.
